Submission on the proposed introduction to the Quota Management System (QMS) of kahawai, broadbill swordfish, mako shark, blue shark, yellowfin tuna, southern bluefin tuna and red maki. Submission notes that the Ministry of Fisheries is not considering any alternative to management of these species outside of the QMS. This is concerning. A large black market for shark fins has developed and there is disregard for the law on targeting swordfish. MFish needs to be more active to ensure compliance.
