Submission. Mako and porbeagle shark TAC review. NZBGFC. 27 Feb 2004
Submission urges the Minister of Fisheries to ban shark finning, only intact sharks ought to be landed. A large black market for shark fins has developed and there is disregard for the law on targeting swordfish. MFish needs to be more active to ensure compliance. Submission by the New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council. 27 February 2004.
Submission. Broadbill into the QMS. NZBGFC. 27 Feb 2004
Submission providing background info on the broadbill swordfish fishery. It is unacceptable that the Ministry and Minister of Fisheries continue to turn a blind eye to the illegal fishing practices in the broadbill fishery. Submission urges the Minister to ban the use of lightsticks to target swordfish. Submission by the New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council, predecessor to the NZ Sport Fishing Council. 27 February 2004.
Submission. RMA review issues and options. NZSFC. 3 Feb 2020
Submission highlighting concerns about the overlapping jurisdiction of the Resource Management Act and the Fisheries Act, to control fisheries resources. Management of fisheries resources ought to remain under the Fisheries Act. The creation of marine reserves under the RMA will displace fishing into concentrated areas. Submission by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 3 February 2020.
Submission. Southern bluefin tuna TAC increase. NZSFC. 12 Feb 2018
Submission recommending the Minister of Fisheries set aside a 40 tonne allowance to allow for recreational fishing interests in Southern bluefin tuna. The allowances and regulations set in 2018 must provide the opportunity for this fishery to develop responsibly. Submission by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 12 February 2018.
Submission. Southern bluefin tuna TAC review. NZSFC. 11 Nov 2011
Submission against the Minister increasing the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and ACE available for Southern bluefin tuna. The Minister needs to take a precautionary approach because increasing catch when the scientific advice shows the spawning stock is critically low is risky. Submission by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 11 November 2011.
Submission. Special permits review. NZSFC. 7 Sep 2012
Submission in support of the Minister finding a suitable mechanism that will provide temporary relief for set net fishers facing sudden displacement in Taranaki waters. The existing deemed value regime and 6th Schedule are the appropriate provisions for addressing unexpected or unwanted catch. Submission by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 7 September 2012.
Submission. Paua ACE carry forward. NZSFC. 14 June 2011
Submission objecting to the removal of Paua from Schedule 5A of the Fisheries Act to enable up to 10% of uncaught ACE to be carried forward to the following year. Submission by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 14 June 2011.
Submission. Aquaculture Technical Advisory Group report. NZSFC. 16 Dec 2009
Submission in response to the Aquaculture Technical Advisory Group report. Submission highlights the need for non-commercial fishing interests and environmental groups to be involved in the development of the National Policy Statement & National Environmental Standard for Aquaculture. Submission by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 16 December 2009.
Submission. Red snapper management review. NZSFC. 26 July 2019
Submission in support of urgent management action to reduce commercial catch of red snapper as catches have been unconstrained for 40 years. Submission by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 26 July 2019.
Submission. Skipjack tuna management review. NZSFC. 20 June 2014
Submission in support of managing skipjack tuna as proposed by the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission. The submission highlights that there is no effective fisheries management for yellowfin or bigeye tuna under the Quota Management System because the Total Allowable Commercial Catch (TACC) levels are in excess of historic catches. An excessive allocation for skipjack would repeat these mistakes. Submission by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. 20 June 2014.
