Current Lines November 2016

As 2016 rapidly descends into 2017 and another big game fishing season on the horizon, good ol’ Willie Nelson is crooning on the radio “blue skies shining at me, nothing but blue skies do I see.  Bluebirds singing a song, nothing but bluebirds all day long.  Never saw the sun shining so bright, never saw things going so right.  Noticing the days hurrying by when you’re fishing, my how they fly.  Nothing but blue skies do I see”.

Rumour has it that recently (22/11/2016) a Marlin was seen, hooked and lost near the “505”.  This has since been reported in other media circles, so there must be an element of truth to it?

There seems to be two very big warm water eddies within range (well a long day’s range).  One close to the “505”, strange aye, and the other wide of the Alderman’s north or Mayor.  It won’t be long now for the first of many exploratory trips out wide looking for Tuna and Marlin.

With many venues offering evening talks with prominent lure makers showing their wares and methods, the seasons start must be near (see above).  From the gossip I have heard and the new toys on display, there seems to be a genuine rush to find the next secret weapon.  So, fishers, don’t use all your brownie points at once.  I suggest you take the young ones Xmas shopping to buy the significant other their present, and slip into a tackle shop and see which lures catch the young one’s eyes.   A fresh perspective may just be the edge you need to become a champion.

With the start of warmer weather and minds being diverted to big fish, please check your club membership is current for the new season.  It would be Murphy’s law that you would catch the biggest trophy winning fish of your life only to find you are not a financial member at the time.

Well done to Ben Lay for taking out first prize in the annual Carters Mangawhai fishing comp with an 11.14kg Snapper!  Ben took home an awesome 2200W generator from Jackson Brown and Honda Marine New Zealand! It just so happens that Ben recently repowered his boat with a Honda BF80 from Jackson Brown! Congratulations on a great fish Ben!  In the words of Jack Palance, “believe it or not”.

We are pleased to announce the arrival of “ITM” to our NZ Sport Fishing as a Nationals Sponsor alongside Simrad.  Stay tuned for further updates for the 2017 Simrad ITM NZSFC NATIONALS, that will be fished from the 18th thru to the 25th February 2017.
