Hokianga Big Game & Sport Fishing Club Inc

The Club was first formed in 1993 and was initially affiliated to the Bay of Islands Swordfish Club.  It became an Incorporated Club in December 1997, since which time the membership has been on a steady increase, and now boasts to having 312 members.

There are two boat ramps in the area, both of which are easily accessed.  It’s less than 10 minutes from launching your boat to being across the Hokianga Bar which at times can be extremely dangerous so if you are unfamiliar with this contact the ‘Omapere Base’ ( channel 82 ) and they will be able to assist you.  Once outside you will find many species of fish and have the opportunity to experience some great fishing with Marlin becoming more and more popular and bringing great results in recent years.

Omapere and Opononi have a wide range of accommodation available from bed and breakfasts, backpackers and camping grounds to hotels and motels.  Most other needs you have are available from the local Four Square stores, hardware store, Service Station, craft shop, takeaway shops, cafe’s and hotels plus more.
