Akitio Boating Club

Akitio Beach is 75kms east of Dannevirke, approximately an hours drive and only 35 minutes from Pongaroa.
The Akitio Boating Clubhouse is situated along the beachfront with great views of the ocean, a fabulous facility to relax in after a days fishing or doing other activities that Akitio Beach offers.  There are 400 members, coming from as far afield as Wellington and up to the Hawkes Bay.   Many are boat owners but surfcasting is also very popular at Akitio.
We hold our annual ‘Fish Akitio’ competition during the last full weekend of February every year.  It is a fun filled weekend with fishing for everyone, spot prizes and a local community group provide a meal on the Saturday night for only a small charge.  Tractors are available for hire and accommodation is available for groups at the Akitio Community Centre, see their website www.tararua.net/akitio
Children are catered for with a fishing competition/xmas party in early December and we have a Women’s Tournament between Xmas and New Year.
