Mike has now touched the ground with his feet running; attending the board meeting, Fisheries Management meetings, zone meetings and contact with members.  He has joined the NZ Sportfishing Council in a communications and operations capacity. Initially Mike will be learning the ropes and getting in contact with clubs and club members around New Zealand.  Some of Mike’s initial focus will be relationships and sharing knowledge between Club’s, Club members and NZSFC – a grass roots focus.

Background
Mike grew up fishing the Hauraki Gulf with his family being members of Outboard Boating Club. Mike is a keen surfer, fisher and loves many watersports – a current member of member of the Whangamata Ocean Sports Club. Mike’s favourite fishing techniques are Topwater, straylining and livebaiting with kingfish being his preferred target species. Mike is happiest when he can bring friends and family together for a shared feed from the ocean.

Mike has been a radio announcer for 20 years working out of locations including Oamaru, Christchurch, Whangarei, Auckland and most recently Coromandel where he was Operations Manager for Mediaworks.
Mike has been heavily involved in his local communities and excelled at bringing communities together and giving them a voice. Mike is passionate about NZSFCs work and committed to fostering close relationships with affiliated clubs.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Communications completed in Christchurch and postgraduate from AUT. Mike and his girlfriend Andie are currently mid renovations on their house and when they have spare time enjoy fishing the Hauraki Gulf and Coromandel Peninsula.
