Current Lines January 2016 Issue 2

Thank you David Bowie for the memories -“I was walking down the high street, when I heard footsteps behind me.   And there was a little old man (Hello!) in scarlet and grey, chuckling away…Ha, ha, ha, hee, hee, hee, I’m a laughing gnome and you can’t catch me.  Ha, ha, ha, hee, hee, hee, I’m a laughing gnome and you can’t catch me, said the laughing gnome.  This leads me to wonder if this is a favorite song of the Marlin family!

10-01-16 – The vessel “King Hit” with broken steering came back to the weigh station with a magnificent 58.9kg Yellowfin Tuna caught on 15k line.  Where was it caught you are asking?  Well the story is, it was caught in the Tiri channel.

10-01-16 – Mercury Bay stalwart and Patron Warren “Wazza” Harris, who is also on the NZSFC Board, showed the youngsters how it is done.  A blue and white lure caught his latest Striped Marlin weighing in at 119.64kg off the vessel Skorpious, only taking him 35 minutes and a cuppa tea to land.

11-01-16 – Warkworth junior angler Stevie Mabey fishing on family boat “Rookie”, caught his Striped Marlin weighing 111.4kg, well done Steve.

15-01 – 16 – A New Raglan record Striped Marlin was caught by Brice Foster weighing 150.1kg on a 37 kg line, on vessel “XTSEA”.

16-01-16 – Whilst some of us were at a Council meeting or two last weekend, Tutukaka reported 15 Striped Marlin, 6 Yellowfin Tuna, 2 Mahimahi and a solitary short billed Spearfish for the day. Might have been a busy meeting but not that busy!

20-01-16– From the Whangaroa weigh station, a 310 kg Blue Marlin was caught by angler Ken Teague, off the vessel “Outrageous.”

20-01-16– The good little ship “BCaus” with the Randrup family aboard, came in with a Big Eye Tuna at 31.2kg, a Mahimahi at 8.1 kg for David, and the next day, brother Andrew, tag and released Striped Marlin.

22-01-16 – Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club, a great week fishing wise.  Not sure how many fish were caught in total as we are STILL waiting on paperwork from the tag and releases.  The Crew on “Gotcha” had a great day tagging two Striped Marlin out of a quadruple strike, then another one later in the day, giving them 3 tag and released Marlin for a day’s fishing.

23-01-16– Another three Striped Marlin for Raglan today, one tagged and two weighed.

23-01-16– From the New Plymouth Sportfishing and Underwater Club, awesome junior angler Emily (8yo) went out and caught her first Striped Marlin weighing in at 96.4kg on a 24kg line, off the vessel, wait for it, yup the boats name “Oarsum”.

Don’t forget it is now just a month away, so let’s get your team’s information sorted and the gear ready to fish this year’s 2016 SIMRAD NZSFC NATIONALS.   Who will be champions, who will catch the biggest, who will release the most?  Stay tuned until next time, for up to date reporting.
