02/12 – from Mercury Bay – Jason Sheriff fishing from the “Sol – E – Mar” landed the first Yellowfin Tuna for NZ weighing in at 17.66kg.
3/12 – Finn Holmes a junior, fishing from “YOGI” landed a very nice Albacore weighing 10.7kg caught on 10 kg line. They were fishing out from Mercury Bay.
4/12- former Counties stalwart now residing in Whitianga Mark Franklin went out for a day trolling with Mercury Bay stalwart Warren Harris on the “WAZZUP” and came home catching the first Big Eye, weighing in at 48.66kg and the lure was a green one. It was caught outside the Footprint in 1000+ Metres.
4/12 – from Whangaroa a pair of Yellowfin Tuna were caught from the vessel “SATISFACTION”, where anglers Dawn Coleman and Gay Thomson caught one each weighing 53.5kg & 51.1kg, with both caught on 24kg line.
4/12 – from New Plymouth Sportfishing and Underwater Club at the recent snapper bonanza fishing competition, a new club and competition record weight snapper was caught by local member “Mike” and the snapper weighed an impressive 14.035kg.

As the year slowly comes to a close, let us take time to reflect on those who are volunteers, those who sponsor, and those who have gone to the great fishing competition in the sky. Time is short, family values are the strongest tie we have, and a family that fishes together is one of pride and beauty. This brings to mind a famous quote from the roll call on “Hill Street Blues” “let’s be careful out there.”
